The luxury superyacht "Sea Lady II", moored in Saint-Tropez, catches fire

It caught fire quickly around 8:15 p.m., while onlookers were strolling in the port of Saint-Tropez (Var). The Sea Lady II, a 41-meter luxury yacht, was damaged by flames on Thursday, July 10, along the Meiffret quay, which adjoins the harbor master's office.

"Everyone has evacuated the boat," the regional gendarmerie command said. According to firefighters, two men aged 24 and 30 "inhaled smoke" and were treated by emergency services. "All nearby boats have been removed to prevent any risk of spreading the fire," and a pollution barrier has been set up around the yacht, the firefighters added. According to images posted on social media, the fire was sending thick black smoke into the sky above Saint-Tropez.

Around thirty firefighters, assisted by four engines, were deployed to fight the blaze, along with the gendarmerie and SNSM sea rescuers. According to the gendarmerie, the fire was "likely caused by an electrical problem." According to Var-Matin, the firefighters believed they had extinguished the flames for the first time around 10 p.m., but the fire started again, "fueled by the 27,000 liters of fuel in the tanks, which had just been filled. " It was "still not extinguished" after midnight and had spread to "the three upper decks" of the boat, a spokesperson for the Var fire department said. They remained on deck until 2 a.m.

The Sea Lady II flies the Maltese flag. Built in 1986 and refurbished in 2024, it is available for charter at €80,000 per week excluding fees during peak season. In addition to its eight crew members, it can accommodate up to ten passengers in its five cabins, all equipped with private bathrooms, according to the yacht charter website Charter Index.
